Ashok Robin, a native of India, was brought up in Coimbatore, a mid-sized industrial city in the southern state of Tamilnadu. He did his undergraduate work at the Government Arts College in that city. Later, he moved to the US, completing his MBA and Ph.D at SUNY-Buffalo. He has published articles on a variety of topics in accounting and finance in journals such as the Journal of Accounting and Economics, Financial Management, Review of Accounting Studies and Journal of Financial Research.
