This book has historically garnered rave reviews by very competent chefs and food writers. I can add little to those reviews except to say this book is required reading for those seriously involved with food. Whether an enthusiastic home cook or a working pro, this book unrepentantly charts the historical genesis of what has become known as the prolifically photographed, eccentric celebrity chef. The young MPW was the catalyst and role model for legions of chefs. The recipes are well written, clear, and likely delicious. But to me, it is the wondrous, illustrated culinary history it tracks that makes the book worth owning.
