This book of historical fiction, set during WW2 examines the difficulty of family members left behind, who are waiting on news of loved ones, and who are trying to manage through wartime. It also recounted the war in Europe from Hungary's perspective. There are several story lines, and the main characters learn about love, family, and the sovereignty of God. Many family secrets are unearthed.
I find Ms. Austin, in an attempt to teach about Jewish culture, or in her other books, Catholic culture, doesn't really take a stand as a Protestant. None of her characters comes to a saving knowledge of Christ, which I'd expect in inspirational fiction. It's as if she thinks it doesn't matter what you believe, as long as you're sincere. But it does matter.
