This book is an utterly addictive thriller from a supremely talented writer and edgar award winner. "I'm not really a guy who needs to mix sex with honey, whipped cream, chopped pecans, or champagne, but some women expect these things from a celebrity and I hate to disappoint them. I'm pretty thoughtful that way." It's the decadent fifties and Hollywood showbiz duo Lanny Morris and Vince Collins are riding the wave of success. With fame, fortune, not to mention glamorous women at their fingertips it seems nothing can go wrong for the witty lotharios. But it can. And it does. When a beautiful woman is found dead in their hotel suite, the ensuing scandal destroys the famous pair and they go their separate ways. No one ever finds out what really happened that night. That is until twenty years later. Tart-tongued and with a wicked penchant for cocktails, sexy journalist O'Connor is determined to unearth the story of a lifetime. But living legends Morris and Collins have their own agendas and secrets to hide. O'Connor soon finds herself compromisingly coiled around both men, knowing more about them than they realise and less than she might like, but increasingly fearful that she knows far too much.

I'm in my early 50's, I remember Lewis and Martin, Hope and Crosby, Abbott and Costello, and their spirit lives on in the on-screen persona of the two male main characters in this book.
Off screen though lies the true story.
The death of a young woman is at the heart of this well written book, you think the killer is one person, then another, then you're not sure if its an unknown character....confused? You will be.
And the punchline?
Read it and see.

AT LAST A WORTHWHILE READ
Even after researching the most touted new books, of the dozen or so I read each month, perhaps one stands out as recommendable. This is it! Believably quirky characters, a convoluted plot, plus deft, droll writing cinched my vote. Enjoy this one - they are rare indeed.
