For bewildered parents of out-of-control children.
I read this book more than ten years ago when one of my children was in a state of total rebellion, and I would say that this book saved my sanity. Also it gave me hope for the future. William Backus uses nouthetic counselling, BUT he speaks the truth WITH LOVE which many nouthetic counsellors seem to forget to do. I ordered this book again to give to a woman at my church whose daughter has an eating disorder. And rereading it, I realize once again how much Godly wisdom, compassion and insight went into this book, and how the strategies in this book helped my particular situation. Backus also acknowledges the necessity of grieving over one's erring child as a first step towards taking action. A lot of other books tend to assume that one is made of iron and has no feelings; he makes no such assumption. So if any parent, whose children seem lost and determined to destroy themselves with drugs, witchcraft and other bondages, is looking for balm in Gilead, I can heartily recommend this book. The copy I got was in very good condition too. God bless.
