This book is an outstanding history of the 345th Bomb Group. It is a very detailed account of the group as a whole from its inception until its return to the States at the end of WW II. Focusing on the crews, their planes and on each mission they flew, "War Path" is filled with photos, paintings and drawings of the planes and men who made up the "Air Apaches"; many of them actual combat photos. Although the book is factual in nature you get the feeling that Hickey was concerned with each of the crews. He bled when they bled and a little piece of him died when each of them died. If I was allowed only a single unit history of WW II this would be my choice.
