Thomas, the "dumb ox"
Some of Thomas Aquinas's fellow students once remarked that he was a "dumb ox" because of his slow speech and movements. Albert Magnus, his mentor, remarked that "the bellowing of this dumb ox will be heard for centuries."
Fr. Barron has done a great job framing the life of St. Thomas Aquinas in this book. Aquinas is very difficult to read and understand, but Fr. Barron has done a marvelous job capturing the development of Aquinas as a theologian.
One won't find much of Aquinas's writings in this book, only enough to illustrate his life and works, but there is a comprehensive bibliography included and will lead the reader to other works.
I enjoyed the book so much that it is being used as a 'cited works' in my term paper on St. Thomas Aquinas.
