This House of Sky is a classic book, I believe Doig's first. A biographical work, his words and feelings are felt deeply.....not a fast read, but one to be savored!

A remarkable family
Ivan Doig is not your ordinary writer, and this classic piece is not your ordinary memoir. It might help if you are familiar with the skies, the weather, and the visual beauty of the west; but if you are not, this tale of growing up in the harsh landscape of Montana will instruct you. It will fold you into the place, the people, and the struggle of one boy's growth. Doig's mother died early, and his grandmother came to join his father in forming a remarkable family. We watch a relationship that begins as scratchy and mutually antagonistic develop into the loving world a man remembers.
