Atmospheric and Mesmerizing
In view of the vampire dramas in new books and television lately, this book is right on the mark, although written in the mid-90's. The architecture, history, and ghost stories of New Orleans intertwined with a scary family's dynasty make for exciting reading. I was a bit put off by the antics at the end, until then the strange recurring character of a ghosty gentleman seemed very realistic. However, the main characters in this love story are quite likeable.

Love the Mayfair witches!!!
I have read all of Anne Rices' books and this is my favorite. I loved the Mayfair witches and reading all the details Ms Rice provided about their history.

Amazing Trip into a new world.
This is a book that lays the foundation for many of her other ones. Later in the series she brings the Mayfair?s and Vampires together and to understand what Rowan went through and why her family is the way that they are then you must read this. I think this tell an interesting story that shows its southern colors by the description given on the area and the home. This is worth buying!

By far the Best Anne Rice book
This is my favorite Anne Rice book. Her characters really draw you in. You can read it in one setting. It is such a page turner. Leaves you wanting more, once again.
