The Revelation and The Town are, so far, the only books I have read by by Bentley Little, an unsung master of horror, except by his fans and by the critics who have praised many of his books. As far as I know, only award he has ever won is the Bram Stoker Award for his debut novel, The Revelation, which happens to be the first book I read by him. The Revelation was a scarier book, making it a better story to me, but I was satisfied with what I got when I read The Town. It is the chilling story of what happens when a man moves his family back to his hometown after winning a huge lottery. The small town has always had a reputation for being haunted, but the phenomena was always peaceful and harmless before Greg returned with his wife and children. Upon their arrival, the supernatural occurrences turn darker and more sinister, resulting in the horrific deaths of several residents, causing Greg to fear for the safety of his family. But the ghosts are not the only reason. The townspeople do not believe in the religion Greg and his family practice, which is why they blame the whole family for frightening trouble. They insist that Greg brought something evil with him when his family arrived, and they are now determined for the family to leave, even if it means resorting to threats... or worse. The Town is a gripping, suspenseful tale of terror about what can happen when ordinary people allow superstition, fear, and misunderstandings to fester and turn into hatred and ignorance. A good, scary spine-tingler with an important message! I recommend it to all who enjoy a good story, especially fright fans!
