This book is an incredible modern retelling of Alexander Dumas's Count of Monte Cristo (also a brilliant book), about a young man called Ned who is wrongly torn from his life and isolated from society for ten years, only to return to have found the world a different place and the people who put him there thriving and happy, seemingly haven forgotten him. The story is wonderfully and beautifully told and Stephen Fry has brought an amazing book into the 20th century without losing any of its original magic, and has added a little of his own too!
