This provocative, controversial book convincingly shows that the Bible, and the Christian faith on which it is based, were drawn, in fact, from Egyptian and other early mythologies and that the Bible was never intended to be a literal document.

This is an amazing book! Mr. Harpur takes a VERY touchy subject for Christians and Pagans alike and handles it very well. He not only theorizes that Christianity arose from very Pagan roots before being 'de-paganized' for political reasons, he gives examples and sources of information. If you are Pagan, you will appreciate his giving credit to some of the original sources of the Christian faith. At the same time, he shows how he has come to appreciate his personal Christian faith even more by recognizing the real roots of the religion. His explanations are thorough, and give one much to think about. While I wish he had added more endnotes, he provides all the information you need to check his findings for yourself. I highly recommend this book to people of any faith.
