I can't believe I missed this CRITCAL gap when I read this book the first time--what was Chandler thinking, who's usually so competent. rereading it, I noticed in first chapter, Orfamay does NOT name Leila, but later on Marlowe mentions her, who is key to whole story. How did you get her name, if Orfamay didn't say it? Serious lapse for author I love . nonetheless, do read the book. sorry if I'm spoiler.
