Thinking person's Yoga
T.K.V.Desikachar presents Yoga in a way that is accessible and at the same time in keeping with its traditional values. The author speaks from a unique position, being the son of Krishnamacharaya - the teacher of BKS Iyengar [Iyengar Yoga]and Patabji Jois [Ashtanga Yoga]. The book contains a wealth of information - interview with the author, chapters on the rationale of practicising postures and breathing techniques, Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, in English and Sanskrit, as well as photographs that show the rich Yoga family tradition of the author. Interestingly, the symbolism of 'hatha yoga' and kundalini that is given in this book differs from the majority of Yoga texts. This is a 'must-read' book for both newcomers to Yoga as well as the more serious student who wishes to explore philosophy of Yoga in a modern context.
