Born in France in 1798, Anne-Th?r?se Guerin served with the Sisters of Providence for seventeen years before being asked to lead a small missionary band of Sisters of Providence to the United States in 1840. She established a motherhouse in Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana. She overcame great trials, including prejudice against Catholics and a devastating fire, while building a strong congregation.
