Taking the latter approach, this book studies Christianity form the early 2nd to late 4th century through the words of pagan observers and 'outsiders' to the Christian religion.

It is amazing... 6 starts
It is a very interesting point of view. I have read much on those subjects, but always felt I needed something more pagan and less Christian. The reason? : to understand the situation in those old days. This book does not have waste. Galenus, Celsus and Plinio: a delicious reading.
