A series of essays, mostly by Jesuits or friends of Jesuits. Overall, a good look; they don't sugarcoat the problems that Jesuits have had at various times with their missionary work, with their educational activities, and their political activities (both inside and outside the Church!). But they don't ascribe a fair share of the blame to the Jesuits for some of the enmity they have generated (inside and outside the Church.
The biggest flaw in the book is a lack of a fair look at Jesuit education in the U.S. By the 20th century, it had become second rate until the Jesuits surrended control of their schools to layman.
Worth a read, but add another book, perhaps "God's Soldiers" for a balanced view of Jesuits.
