Melanie Carmichael (Witherspoon) is a successful New York fashion designer who is dating Andrew Hennings (Patrick Dempsey), a wealthy socialite whose mother, Katherine Hennings (Candice Bergen), is the Big Apple's mayor. Despite her polished uptown image, Melanie grew up poor in the deep South, and as a teenager she married her high school sweetheart Jake Perry (Josh Lucas). This has it all from poor southern women married and wanting more who runs off to New York and discovers how much she loves to designs clother another designesr takes her under his wing and before you know it she has her own show and a new boyfriend who wants to get married he is from money and when he ask her to marry she agrees BUT has to go home alone to get a divorce from her first husband who so for has not signed the papers keeps sending them back this is a must watch movie........
