Twenty-seven stories. Short and sweet. Told in an engaging style, many in dialog form. Mostly from Eastern traditions. All have a spiritual bearing, of one kind or another. They carry inspiring messages of wisdom, each in its own way. Some messaging commonsense wisdom, some moral, some learning, some experiential, some even controversial. Includes life stories of two remarkable women. God, karma, guru, moralism, pacifism, spiritual feminism are among topics covered. Meaning and symbolism frequently exposed and discussed. Most stories have been handed down from generation to generation. They both entertain and educate. Some also inspire and impart wisdom. This book is a collection of twenty-seven spiritual stories that bear inspiring messages of wisdom. They hold intense interest at all ages and in all periods. They have simplicity, commonsense and ethical messaging built into them. No expertise, elitism or sophistication is required to unravel and unlock their contents and purpose. The stories are short and sweet and they make their point directly on the mind. Many of them leave a strong print on the heart, with a deep intuitive appeal that elicits an automatic consent. At the same time, a few of them challenge our received mind-set and their out-of-box perspective provokes us to think differently to digest their message. As they educate, though, they never require or force agreement. They do not impinge on our consciousness a force to believe them. If we disagree with any part of their message, we can leave them alone, maybe for someone else to benefit by them. So, they operate at multiple levels and may even message different people differently for positive and constructive results that work on a diversity of personality types. For, once again, they are spiritual stories, with inspiring messages of wisdom. The author, Ramesh N. Patel, spanned his large repertoire of stories he collected since his childhood to select and elaborate for this volume. This work is his first attempt in the genre of fiction. He is the author of Philosophy of the Gita, Hinduism for Today, One Being: Spiritual Path of Adi Shankara and Self and World: Major Aspects of Indian Philosophy. He taught at Antioch College for twenty-five years before retiring as Professor of Philosophy and Religion. Since his retirement in 2002, Ramesh has been teaching voluntary classes in Bhagavad-gita, Upanishads, Vedic Philosophy and Spirituality Studies.
