I was a nun and left my community in 1968, then didn't contact friends there until the 90's. I was amazed at the changes in their lifestyles (not good ones, I thought), and wondered how this had come to pass. Ann Carey has nailed the historical unraveling, and now I know what happened. This book is full of facts and told well. Essentially, it's a narrative of how a few politically astute nuns dragged their entire communities into a secular lifestyle, abandoning their traditional apostolates and adopting spiritual values more pagan and Eastern than Catholic.
