The first in the series Wives of the Patriarchs, I loved this book. It covers the life of Sarah and Abraham and includes the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. Even if you?re familiar with the story, you almost forget you know what happens next. Mrs. Smith writes stories with such depth, you feel you know the characters. You get a real sense of how long they waited for Isaac and how impossible it seemed to them. I especially understood Sarah?s jealousy of Hagar. I even felt for Hagar and her need to be loved. I would have liked to see it extended to the sacrifice of Isaac, but I have a feeling that will show up in the next book, Rebekah.
