Seller's Description:
Near Fine. First printing, 2007. Signed by Clayton Patterson. Quarto, softcover, 624 pp illustrated, about fine copy with top right corner a bit bumped. Clayton Patterson (b. 1948), an artist, photographer, videographer, and chronicler who settled in the Lower East Side in the late 1970s with his artist wife, Elsa Rensaa, where he has devoted most of his energy to documenting the life, arts, people and politics of his neighborhood. He is a founding member of the NO! Art movement which includes Enrico Baj, Leon Golub, Allan Kaprow and many other well known contemporary artists. He is the subject of a lengthy article in the New York Times on April 4, 2014, 'Last Bohemian Turns Out The Lights; Clayton Patterson, Rebel and Photographer, Plans to Leave the Lower East Side for Europe" which gives a good summation of all of Patterson's activities, including his video documentation of the Tompkins Square Park rioting in 1988. Lately, his attention has turned toward a people's history of the growth of tattoo arts in NYC and a number of other art projects and exhibits.
