Chapter 2, "The Cheap Hymn", attacks commercialism, the imitation of popular music, the lack of textual coherences, the "jog-trot" rhythms and unrelated refrains, and the lack of craft in text and music. He calls for good music, cultivation of understanding, and exposure to hymnody of high quality in his third chapter, and appends a list of "Three Hundred Good Hymns."-David W.
