"And how is our cough to-day?" would Pinto ask (for Pinto was Ledbitter's doctor), and he it was who dazzled the neighbours with the display of linen and the double eyeglass; "are we easier, el1?" "IVell, for the matter of that, doctor, much about the same; but I don't mind the cough; it's the close-shaving in the matter of a drop of something. I don't feel myself without it." "My dear sir, we must be severe with you on that particular point. You must not indulge in any thing of the kind just yet, I assure you. Drink would be only adding fuel to fire; you are a great deal too easily excited as it is." The man rolled his eye round the room fiercely, and muttered some dissatisfied sentences to himself, but did not renew his remarks on the subject.
