One of Bob's best
To many servicemen and women traveling eastward or westward through the country during World War II, a short stop in North Platte, Nebraska, was an unexpected highlight of their war experience. The story of these women, men, girls and boys of the North Platte area is told many years later by the syndicated columnist for the Chicago Tribune, Bob Greene. His sensitivity and interest in the folks who brought about this miracle in the privations of wartime shows through at every paragraph. Bob spent time with the people who were there and who witnessed the amazing feat of a small town feeding and honoring these soldiers, sailors and airmen with their care and concern. And they did it every single time a train passed through for the entire duration of the war!
This story makes one proud to be an American and Bob Greene tells it best!
