The prime object of this book is to impart an understanding of integrated circuits and their capabilities to engineers engaged in their application. The treatment covers technology, principles of circuit design, and performance. Both analogue and digital integrated circuits are covered, but emphasis is given to the latter. An outline of integrated circuit evolution and process technology is followed by a description of logic gates and small- and medium-scale integration: the material in these sections is presented in such a way as to make the reader aware of the potential for very-large-scale integration (VLSI). VLSI takes up the final section of the book and includes chapters on semiconductor memories, microcomputers, and custom and semi-custom integrated circuits. A book for university, industrial, electrical and electronic engineers, computer scientists, and telecommunications engineers as well as first-degree students in these and related disciplines.
