In an age where we often read inaccurate generalizations about other times and places, it's wonderful to have an accessible (translated) set of primary sources to consult.
Example: Christine laments that someone has died sadly young--at age 42. Another of those reminders that average age of 30 for overall longevity meant lots of babies died and women in childbirth, but if you survived childhood, war, and major illness you could keep going for a long time.
And of course the picture of women's religious feelings is wonderful--like the image of the universe in the palm of her hand like an almond, in Julian of Norwich.
