The Long Ride
It was cows verses sheep; rancher against herder in a traditional battlefield and showdown by one of the best writers of western fiction there was--Peter Dawson--the pen name of Jonathan H. Glidden, brother to Luke Short, Frederick Glidden. And when you find yourself in the middle like Streak Mathiot did you had to do whatever was necessary to survive, regardless of whoever it might hurt. Mathiot was a lone wolf; he played things his own way and in his own time, and that was the problem; for he had never learned to rely or trust anyone else. Peter Dawson writes westerns they way they should be written. I can't say anymore than that.
