Dr. Schunk is an amazing psychologist and researcher. Many of the studies cited in the textbook include his own work. The book is very good for a general overview of educational psychology. However, many of the major theories are addressed too concisely, leaving the educational psychology student to research and investigate further to find additional information in which to complete any sort of class case studies.
Chapters are well organized (with the exception of Chapter 4, which needs total restructuring), with informative introductions and summaries. The chapters also include a variety of charts and graphs to enhance the psychology student's understanding. The "Applications" of theory and content could use some work with more direct usage highlighted for the student. A number of times our discussion team could not fully recognize why a certain scenario was used for application.
The book is excellent to use in a college-level class. Schunk's style of writing is easy to follow and does motivate the reader to continue learning, which is what it's all about.
