This book is fantastic, well-written with so much wit and many laughs and best of all with a love story so subtle that you must read the book at once. I love it. Maria Rennard

More than just a romance
I've read this novel several times over the last 10 years, and it never loses its charm. Annis and Oliver are fun to watch as they develop a romantic relationship, mostly because even love fails to make them act sappy or soupy or simple-minded. The first time I read it left me feeling out of sorts because Oliver is abrupt and rude, and I didn't understand how she could fall in love with him. Now that I'm past 30 I can appreciate the adult intelligence and interaction the two share.
Despite the fact that this is technically a romance, I've come away from this most recent reading feeling that it's really more than that. Annis' independence stands at the heart of this story, and it's the way she deals with the life she's built and the plans she's made in the face of this new intruder that creates tension.
The supporting cast is also fun to read, though some of the threads feel dropped rather than tied off at the end. But, they're not the focus, and not everyone's story gets told completely every time.
