I really enjoyed Jeffrey Rinek's description of his childhood - he was born into a Jewish family, and his father's occupation was mortician and owner of a funeral home. As a child, Jeffrey developed a fascination and a respect for the deceased. After college he joined the FBI but did not become a special agent for many years. Eventually, he was assigned to a unit that investigated missing persons, and he developed a good reputation for handling cases that involved perpetrators of child abuse, kidnapping, torture, and murder. After retiring from the FBI, Rinek wrote this book with a co-author to discuss several of his most prominent cases and in the last chapter how his work affected himself physically and mentally and also affected his wife and two sons. If you are a parent, you might want to steer clear, but if you enjoy true-life law enforcement stories and don't get easily put-off by detailed crime scenes or the psychopathology of these types of perpetrators, then I would highly recommend this book
