This story is one of determined spirit of an honor bound man on a quest to avenge his family, it's honor and it's name/clan. A man set to do anything to bring about change in a land that was once a home - but now seems foreign. Any lengths include kidnap to secure a sword of the clan in order to gain a strong army to fight for justice. An innocent girl - determined to flee a land she is not fond of and cannot see as a home after living in America. She is fleeing while he is trying to kidnap her. She is the secret to getting the sword back. Along the way, she tries to flee. She does not understand the cause initially. The longer they are together - the stronger the bond between them. She of independent spirit, bend and mind is strong. She finds a common goal in his quest and decides to join him as she falls for him. He is determined to trade her for the sword that will bring about clan change and freedom for his people. He falls for her and sees his mission and his people through her eyes. Lacking in true ability and possibly on a quest that is insurmountable. The trade is made. That is when the twists take place. Problem is, they are few and slight. The story really could be told with those small bits of drama as there is no background lain to foresee them as anything other than filler for the pages. Still, even seeing so, a reader can forgive/forget that small bit in the book. The remarkable turnaround of the main players in the book is satisfying enough without the small bit of drama that eventually takes place after the trade. A character of interest is the sister - one wishes for her story to fully come to the fore. (I think it does in another book). Recommended reading at least once to find out how the story will work.
