As I age, it is harder and harder to make me laugh. Jean Kerr can do it. I think it is because she is so intelligent, so educated, so misplaced (although happily so) as a traditional wife-and-mother. It is the contrasts, it is the recognition, the surprise that she reliably delivers. You don't have to be female to Get It, either. She got my brother through surgical recovery, laughing all the way.
