Fine. Sierra Club Books, 2008. Book. Fine. Soft cover. First Paperback Edition. The stunning nature photography of Galena Rowell. Oversize format. A fresh unopened copy. Benefits the Friends of the Albany, CA Library..
...it lacks Rowell's insights. Many of the pictures are old favorites but there are some new ones too. However, the new ones lack the subtext usually provided by Rowell in other books. It's still a good book though.

Simply Stunning!
As a rock and ice climber, photographer, journalist I am pretty familiar with the many aspects of life Galen Rowell's life embraced so tightly as to leave it gasping for breath. So in that sense this book held few surprises. On the other hand having for many years thought of Galen as a "climber" who attempted to pay his way by taking photos I was stunned by the images in this book. Simply put Galen Rowell was a superb photographer whose accomplishments just within that realm are enough to leave you breathless. Couple the breadth and depth of these images with the fact that Galen was also a brilliant writer, a world class climber, a world class environmentalist, and a just plain decent guy and you have an inkling of what this guy's life encompassed. If I were told that I was going to be stranded on a desert island and only allowed to possess a single photography book, this would be that book!
