IT'S TIME TO DIVORCE DIVORCE AND GIVE MARRIAGE ITS DUE HONOUR. The entire subject of divorce and re-marriage is a complex and emotionally charged issue. It is one of the most vexing problems the church faces in these modern days. Sadly, the church has lost sight of the purpose and meaning of marriage, as well as having forgotten the responsibilities with which marriage is accompanied. In Western culture, many people have a low view of marriage. It is approached casually with a take-it-or-leave-it attitude, rather than the reverence that Scripture gives it: "Let marriage be held in honor among all" (Heb. 13:4a). Marriage should not be entered into lightly. It is not a game. It is a serious covenant relationship. The problem is, most people these days are not prepared for marriage. They have not been educated as to the seriousness of marriage or its responsibilities, nor have they prepared themselves for what marriage requires from them. When it turns out not to be like the fairy tale that Hollywood has fed them, they cast it aside with no regard for it or its sanctity. Some people treat marriage as though it is like buying a car; when they get tired of this one, they can just trade it in. Far too many preachers, teachers, and authors are less than forthright and honest when it comes to the subject of divorce and re-marriage. They approach the subject not from expositional exegesis, but from personal feelings and opinions. They tell people what they want to hear, rather than telling them the truth . They let their presuppositions interpret the Bible, rather than allowing the Bible to inform their beliefs. Once again, Timothy Klaver leads the reader by the hand, allowing the reader to see with their own eyes what the Bible actually has to say on this life-altering issue.
