Secondly - the Open pralrles of from one to twenty mlles ln dlameter, entlrely destltute of trees, and 1ndeed of all other woody plants, except along the margln of water courses whlch occa81onally pervade them. Thlrdly -the 'barrens, ' or tracts somewhat 1ntermed1ate between the two former, belno sparsely covered W1th oak trees of several dlfferent klnds, and of cons1derable elze, W1th a dense undergrowth of varlous shrubs and annual plants.
