Brother is honestly my favorite Ahlborn novel after reading it, The Shuddering, Bird Eater, and Seed so far. It's a very, VERY morbid read from the standpoint of the killers. The Morrow family is so vividly described and developed, the plot so absolutely well-thought out and delivered. The twist was great. I thought I had it totally predicted halfway through the book, only to find out I kinda did, but came up quite a bit short. This absolutely entertained me even more. The only part it seemed to fall a bit short in for me was the ending, which I expected to be so much more violent. I understood that this was just not Michael's character though. He was a loving character that couldn't help but to see the good in people, even horrible people. So even while I would have personally liked a more spectacular ending, I recognize that this is not really a valid criticism. Overall, I think Brother will stand amongst some of my all time favorite horror novels for a while.
