Ridiculous and fun
What I appreciate most about Hemalayaa as a fitness instructor is that she has a well-developed sense of the ridiculous. Throughout the three fifteen minute routines, the voiceover never delves into self-importance or preachiness. Rather, she maintains an encouraging, jokey tone throughout. At times it almost sounds like a sports cast rather than a fitness video voiceover.
I do like the workout, as well, but would not recommend it for every day use or for those with knee issues, since there is a lot of hopping involved in bhangra. However, for the occasional use it's great and really manages to engage the calf muscles, which lower impact aerobics sometimes ignore. I also like that the movements are not traditional fitness aerobic moves, but stem out of the bhangra tradition. I feel like I'm learning a skill rather than doing the chore of exercise. I also appreciate that there is a total of 45 minutes of material. Most DVDs on the market seem to be 30 minutes long. That's usually fine but from time to time I want a longer, more challenging workout and this DVD fits that need. Of course since it's in three sections it's very adaptable to one's schedule and needs on any given day.
