Until very recently, this was my favourite book in Atherton's Aunt Dimity series. It is yet another proof that a good mystery need not be a "murder mystery." The treatment of the homeless and the mentally ill, as well as the conditions of national service during World War II come under scrutiny in this volume. Everything is handled gently and effectively. In addition to another stuffed toy, we are given a final lagniappe of yummy treat to savour with a cup of something warm and comforting on a cold winter's evening, as we fill our eyes and brains with the contents of the book itself. Books such as this one were made to be read aloud in warm familial sitting rooms. An old-fashioned term applies well to this work -- It's a real doozy!

Cozy Christmas tale with a twist
Lori Shepherd is determined to make this the perfect Christmas for her young family and new friends but when a homeless man collapses under her lilac bush all plans seem to fall to the wayside. Lori learns more about the spirit of giving than she thought possible. The 5th in the magical and wonderful Aunt Dimity series, with plenty of Reginald for even the most diehard fan!
