The detailed illustrations examine the glories of skin with light and electron microscopic techniques and also with the use of state-of-the-art techniques like immunohistochemistry. The anatomical inventory includes a comprehensive examination of the epidermis, dermis, glands, nerves, blood vessels and hair. Each illustration is accompanied by its own text describing the origin of the skin sample and its method of preparation. While the heart of the text is structural, each section is accompanied by a brief physiologic summary of the functional roles of the diverse tissues which make up the integumentary system.
