However, there were five occasions on which this Italian immigrant saw everything (or almost everything) he had built evaporate, and five times that he picked himself up again by dint of hard work, business acumen, innovation and personal integrity. Even after his death, the Cuban government has continued to slander his memory in various ways. Perhaps it is a vain attempt to wrest from him what they never could while he was alive: his honor.
