Juan Antonio Blanco Gil. Historian and political analyst. He was a university philosophy professor, a foreign policy analyst, and a diplomat for the Cuban government at the United Nations. Juan Antonio Blanco Gil. Historian and political analyst. He was a university philosophy professor, a foreign policy analyst, and a diplomat for the Cuban government at the United Nations. In 1992 he resigned from his governmental positions and founded the F�lix Varela Center in Cuba, an institution exclusively funded by international NGOs from the OXFAM family that he directed until moving to Ottawa in 1997. In Canada he was the global coordinator of the World Human Rights Conference Vienna plus Five in 1998 and then later elected Executive Director of Human Rights Internet. He is also a consultant since 2004 to regional networks of Latin American and Caribbean Afro-descendants. He was Visiting Associate Director of the Cuban Research Institute at Florida International University. He is currently the Executive Director of the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Initiatives at Miami Dade College. Blanco has given numerous conferences in universities and think tanks such as the Council of Foreign Relations and has published articles and essays in several specialized journals in the Americas and Europe.
