Introductory to the review of Central and Western Texas as a distinct portion of the state, is a Brief History of Texas, which, while being a complete and new version of narrative his tory, has been written primarily as a proper setting for the local history. A large amount of material has been published which is chiefly interest ing as local history. Without burdening the general narrative, care has been taken to preserve as much as possible of the history of towns, com munities and institutions, the result being a work of general information upon the country described by the title. By means of a copious index, it is believed that all the information is readily available to those using the volumes for reference.
