Bound in cloth boards with titles present to the spine and front board. Boards have light shelf-wear present to the extremities. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. Long before there was today's well known Class I carrier there was another Norfolk Southern Railway. In a weird twist, the road had to be dissolved so the merging Norfolk & Western and Southern could use its name. The original NS dated to the post-Civil War period as a small line intent on connecting northeastern North Carolina with the Norfolk, Virginia area. In the succeeding years it slowly expanded south through the Tarheel State before proceeding west across the Piedmont. EB.
