From an on-line posting: "Afghanistan was America s first attempt at conducting formalized Security Sector Reform. This case study offers readers an opportunity to learn whom the United States saw as key actors in the process, what institutions were slated for reform, and how well the United States and its partners met the typical challenges of SSR. Captain Jason C. Howk is currently Aide de Camp to General Stanley McChrystal in Afghanistan. He has served in the U.S. Army since 1991. Previously, he was Aide de Camp to then-Major General Karl W. Eikenberry during his first tour in Afghanistan. Captain Howk has held leadership positions from Fire Team through Company Commander in the Parachute Infantry and Engineers Corps. He has worked on Joint, NATO, Coalition, and Inter-Service staffs from Battalion to four-star levels. He conducted this research as a student at the Naval Postgraduate School under the guidance of Professor Thomas Bruneau of the National Security Affairs Department, while studying to become a Middle East Foreign Area Officer."
