Set in San Francisco Bay around 1900 The Cruise of the Dazzler is a fast moving novel about a boy who learns some life lessons when he runs away to sea. Bored with school, Joe decides to join a crew of men on a sloop and find adventure. This seems like a fairly harmless move but Joe comes to learn that the crew of the Dazzler is involved with a group of pirates and thieves. Realizing that he is with the wrong people, Joe attempts to run away from the ship. Unsuccessful with that endeavor, Joe encounters a storm at sea and manages to escape alive. Joe eventually returns home and realizes that life has many opportunities and that he needs to make better decisions. In sum, this fast-moving morality tale and adventure story will appeal to all ages.
