Seller's Description:
Very Good in very good jacket. Firts U.S. edition. Hardcover. xvii+ 411 pp. with bibliography, index. Illustrated with photographs. Very good, some light foxing to the edges of the text block, in very good or somewhat better pictorial dust jacket. Biography of iconic screen star Vivien Leigh (1913-1967). Born Vivian Mary Hartley in British India, she was sent to a convent scholl at age six and befriended future actress Maureen O'Sullivan. After her family's return to England in 1931, she enrolled in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Originally not thought to have suffient potential to be a film actress, she appeared on the stage in 1935 (her first name was misspelled in the playbill as "Vivien") and following excellent reviews was signed to a film contract by Alexander Korda. Her film roles in England were well received and in 1939 landed one of the most coveted roles in movie history, that of Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone With The Wind", for which she had been considered a "dark horse" because of her British accent. Leigh would win two Best Actress oscars (for "Gone With The Wind" and nfor her role of Blanche DuBois in "A Streetcar Named Desire").
