William Ospina
William Ospina, born in Tolima, Colombia in 1954, is a poet and essayist. He studied Law and Political Science, lived in Europe for a number of years and, on his return to Colombia, worked in advertising and journalism while continuing to write poetry. Among his books of essays are: "Es tarde para el hombre" ("It is late for man"), 1994; "Esos extranos profugos de Occidente" ("Those strange figitives of the West"), 1994; and "Un algebra embrujada" ("A bewitched algebra"), 1996. In 1999 he published "Las auroras de sangre" ("The auroras of blood"), a long narrative essay on poetry at the time of the Spanish conquest and one of the Conquest's outstanding poet-chroniclers, Juan de Castellanos. His books of poetry include: "Hilo de arena" ("Thread of sand"), 1986; "La luna del dragon" ("The dragon's moon"), 1992; and "africa," 1999.
