William Dickey
WILLIAM DICKEY was born in Bellingham, Washington, in 1928, and brought up in the pacific Northwest. He was educated at Reed College, Harvard University, and the University of Iowa Writer's Workshop. He was later a Fulbright Fellow at Jesus College Oxford University. His poetry, critical reviews, and essays have been widely published in journals, magazines, and anthologies in the United States and abroad. He was later a Fulbright Fellow at Jesus College Oxford University. His poetry, critical reviews, and essays have been widely published in journals, magazines, and anthologies in the United States and abroad. He wrote fifteen books of poetry, including Of the Festivity, which was selected by W.H. Auden for the Yale Series of Younger poets in 1959, More Under Saturn, which won the California Silver Medal for Poetry in 1963, The Rainbow Grocery, which won the Juniper Prize in 1978, and King of the Golden River, which won the Bay Area Book Award for Poetry in 1978. The Education of Desire is his last completed collection. He died in San Francisco in May 1994. The Complete Electronic Poems of William Dickey has recently bee published by Eastgate Systems.
