Timothy Kilby has always held a special interest in his family's history. As a fifth-generation direct descendant of James Kilby (c. 1740 -1829) of Culpeper County, Virginia, he shares this ancestor in common with the lineal descendants of Juliet Ann, the enslaved woman biographed in Gourdvine Black and White.
